A Reporter's Life

Cubs

Five days ago, I wrote about how I was taking an interest in baseball. I'm getting worse: I watched part of yesterday's Chicago vs. Atlanta game and a large part of today's game. I actually talked to the TV, cheered a few times and then really cheered at the end, when the Cubs won their first postseason round in 95 years.

My sister is appalled that I'm getting into baseball. Many other people are laughing at me or are simply bewildered (as am I). I think I'll blame it on Jon.

Oh, and the next Cubs game is Tuesday, against the Florida Marlins.

I'm not appalled. I'm proud. ;-)

You're my sister? ;-)

The answer to that question is a SEKRIT.

I have left enough clues to discern the answer. ;-P

Hey man, if you're jumping a bandwagon so am I, but we saw baseball history being made yesterday.

Just so you know, my official reaction could be described as "bemused". Of course, I don't really know what bemused means, but I have a rough idea. I hope it doesn't mean "stop watching baseball or I will kill you and give your car to Sarah", though, because that's not true.

Whoa. Sweet. I think I like you, MONKEY MONKEY. I think that's exactly what it means.

Lorelei: Bandwagon-jumping sounds like a dangerously fun sport, so I'm in favor of it. And yes, I'm very glad I can say that I watched that baseball game go down in history.

MONKEY and Sarah: You two are using a different dictionary than the rest of the world.

Simple explanation of this phenomenon:

Thing One of Two Things:
Your grandmother was weaned on baseball by your greatgrandfather (live--when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn).

Thing Two of Two Things:
Your mother sits 30 miles from the Cubs' stadium (sorry, cannot recall name of stadium), and is mildly annoyed that the season premier of Smallville is postponed for about 20 minutes because of the game last week. She is, however, cognizant of the signifigance of it all (thanks to NPR), that she feigns mild interest in a Cubs game on a tv in order to encourage the car dealer dudes to sell to her and install a new dome light bulb in her car after hours.

Final Answer:
It skips a generation.

You should also watch the Red Sox/Yankees series. That is a historical rivalry. And if the Red Sox play the Cubs in the World Series, the world might end. But what a way to end it all.

Among the progress of the human mind that is most important for human happiness, we must count the entire destruction of the prejudices that have established inequality between the sexes, fatal even to the sex it favors. One would look in vain for reasons to justify it, by differences in physical constitution, intelligence, moral sensibility. This inequality has no other source but the abuse of power, and men have tried in vain to excuse it by sophisms. by online poker
