A Reporter's Life

Michael Kamen

Michael Kamen, the man behind my all-time favorite music album, has died.

I love the combination of rock and orchestra, and he did just that. In 1999, the Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony, under the direction of Kamen, collaborated to make a two-disc album titled "S&M." The result is nothing short of brilliance, and I've been listening to the album ever since. I don't know how many times I've heard James Hetfield say, "Michael Kamen at the helm!" at the end of the album, as cheers erupt in the background.

He worked on so many other amazing songs, albums and movie soundtracks that have all stood the test of time. Farewell, Michael Kamen.

Yeah, saw this today and was a bit surprised and saddened -- guy was really young. He also did the score for the first X-Men movie.

Jonathan Brandis also died this week -- the kid from SeaQuest and Neverending Story 2.

Also, that double-homicide story of yours is bigger than the world. Yow.

Yep, that story is a whopping 70 inches! (That's 2,247 words.) Did they give you the task of cutting it down? Good luck...

Nah, my boss is, I think. I'm working on sports. :P

I nabbed the story though, and had to scroll down ... and down ... and down .... How long did that story take to do?

And is it just me, or are a LOT of celebrities dying young in the last few months?

Once I had all the parts of the story, the story all just magically came together, for the most part. It's kind of like doing a puzzle: You just watch in amazement as the pieces fall together. The reporting took longer, because it was a lot of leaving messages and waiting for calls back. A couple other reporters also contributed a good amount, and I cut and rearranged to fit it into my story. All in all, it was fun, and they helped a lot.

And I think it's just you. (Ha!)

Ahem ...

Michael Kamen
John Ritter
Jonathan Brandis

Two's a coincidence! THREE'S a trend! *conspiracy*

Pulling John Ritter's death from a few months ago doesn't cut it in the Rule of 3s. Sorry, the judge rules against you. ;)

Bah. BAH!

The judge would have allowed Art Carney, though.
