A Reporter's Life

American Idol

Yes, I've been watching "American Idol," the show on which people compete in singing contests and are gradually eliminated by nationwide telephone votes until one person is left standing. Why do I watch it? Two reasons: First, I love music of just about any kind. Second, Simon Cowell.

Simon Cowell is the British guy who started the show, and of the three judges on the show, he's the negative one who says things like, "That is quite possibly the worst thing I have ever heard in my entire life." Is it belittling? Yes. Does it give these wanna-be stars a taste of real life? Yes. He's just so incredibly funny, and while people rant about how horrible he is, I wonder how they can miss seeing the twinkle in his eye throughout the show. I guess they just misunderstand his sense of humor.

Anyway, the final show is tonight, and it's come down to Ruben Studdard, a 350-pound black guy from Alabama, and Clay Aiken, a scrawny redhead from South Carolina. Here is my prediction: I think Clay will win. BUT. Though I like Clay's voice better, I actually want Ruben to win. I want Ruben to go sign the record deal that's the grand prize, and I want Clay to go to Broadway. He belongs on Broadway. And that, folks, is my opinion on the show.

I've hardly watched the show at all. I don't like that Simon guy. Not 'cause he's "mean" or anything, but because it seems like *too* much of an act. An act is okay, but he overdoes it. Not the meanness, but the whole...he seems to try too hard, sometimes.

And it just gets old after a while. But then, I've not seen much of the show at all. So I might not know what I'm talking about. Again.

So. My prediction was wrong, but the outcome I'd hoped for is what happened. I suppose I both win and lose.

TOM: Yes, I think Simon sometimes overdoes it, and perhaps that's because he's capable of a lot more than judging bunches of bad singers (with a few good ones thrown in). I saw him on The Tonight Show when Katie Couric was hosting, and he was just hilarious.

This is a few days late, I know, but I couldn't resist.

Clay is from Raleigh, NC, where I live. It was a hugely big deal here, so although I didn't watch more than half of *one* episode the entire season, I did hear all about it on the radio every day. (I read the hilarious recaps on the official site as well, so I had a pretty good grasp of what went on.)

I'm happy Clay made it to the top two, but I also think it's good that he didn't win, judging from what I've heard about his personality - he could handle losing, in other words. (It doesn't seem like he lost though - he gets all the "goodies" Ruben does, right? Recording contract, etc.)

It'll be interesting to see how these two Idols handle their new fame.

You forgot about the "American Idol" who graced the soil of Galt! What's her name?.....
Alexis Lopez, that's it. I have no idea if she can sing (she probably can't), but her talent got her to the big city of Galt.

Selah: Clay has an attitude, huh? You know, that doesn't surprise me too much, considering the way he'd try to silently sweet-talk the viewers.

Ross: If a former American Idol wanna-be sang at the Galt Strawberry Festival, I don't need to say much more about her singing abilities...

Well this season has been very shady. I can not believe that they voted off Jennifer Hudson. She was a top pick and had several great performance, unlike "the red headed no singing sixteen year old crooner." I am almost over the whole IDOL show. What is wrong with America? Who is voting?

For a man can lose neither the past nor the future; for how can one take from him that which is not his? So remember these two points: first, that each thing is of like form from everlasting and comes round again in its cycle, and that it signifies not whether a man shall look upon the same things for a hundred years or two hundred, or for an infinity of time; second, that the longest lived and the shortest lived man, when they come to die, lose one and the same thing. by internet casino
